Gerhard Henrich Reining married Anna-Maria Dierkes, daughter of Gerhard Herman Dirkes and Gesine Maria Hofrogge, on Tuesday, 16 January 1844 at St. Vitus Church, Varenrode, Emsland, Hannover, Prussia.1 Gerhard died on 10 June 1891 Ferdinand, Dubois County, Indiana, at the age of 74.5
